Gal Schindler’s figures, which seem to dance in oceans of color, are both alluring and unsettling, evoking a sense of mystery and intrigue. Through her paintings, Gal Schindler invites us to explore the deep spaces within ourselves and our relationship to the world around us, offering a unique perspective on the mysteries of the human experience: “Searching and discovering these characters allow me to live a life through painting – they can hold an emotional space that exists in me that I may not always able to express in real life or in words. Through them I can transcend my own reality and move into an intangible connection that is able to dial into frequencies of the unknown and the inexplicable.” Gal Schindler is interested in the ocean, an alternative world that gathers unknown species and places that have never been reached by mankind. The ocean functions for her as a symbolic space for new possibilities, a realm that can hold contradictions and that relates to nature, a privileged place for the in-between, the infinite and the feminine. Swimming in delicate ovals of colors, the shells of her latest paintings also carry apparent contradictions: both internal and external to themselves, functional and decorative, dead but yet carrying the memory of life - just as paintings. Meticulously painted, in a state she qualifies as meditative, they are also markers of time - they tick off the seconds, the hours, the months - and resonate with the living and the dead, presence and absence. ♡
