쩡 지엔잉

Tseng Chien-Ying was born in Nantou, Taiwan in 1987 and received his MFA from the Taipei National University of the Arts. Tseng was the recipient of the Asian Cultural Council grant in 2017, and was selected by the Ministry of Culture to participate in Art Taipei’s MIT Sector in 2015. Tseng’s artistic practice is founded on traditional oriental techniques, exploring the possibility of traditional materials or painting languages fused into contemporary practices. By presenting the psychological state through the depiction of human senses, Tseng investigates the discomfort of the psychological body or the sense of contradiction in social life. He combines the seemingly exquisite and delicate scenes in his paintings with elements of cruelty, absurdity, and void to highlight the hidden violence in society suffered by individuals. From the absurdity in the imagery of Tseng’s works, he attempts to ponder the significance of human existence in the debate between spirituality and the material world through the analysis and review of the faculty world.
