마레이커 판 바르머르담

Amsterdam And Karlsruhe 기반

Marijke van Warmerdam (Nieuwer Amstel, Netherlands, 1959) is an artist who lives and works in Amsterdam and Karlsruhe. She is internationally renowned for her short films, photographs and sculpture, which together form an extraordinarily consistent body of work. With a typically light touch, the work combines a deceptively naïve approach to the act of seeing with straightforward strategies, such as dramatic shifts of scale, doubling, reflection, rhythmic repetition or surprising juxtapositions to urge us to look with our eyes wide open. Since 1995 she participated in prominent international exhibitions: Biennale di Venezia and Gwangju Biennale in 1995, Documenta X, Kassel in 1997, Berlin Biennale and Biennale of Sydney in 1998. Her solo exhibitions have included Museum Boijmans van Beuningen, Rotterdam (2011, this exhibition toured Serralves Museum of contemporary Art in Porto, 2012, and Kunsthalle Düsseldorf, 2013); The Fruitmarket Gallery, Edinburgh (2006); Ikon Gallery, Birmingham (2006); S.M.A.K., Ghent (2004); ICA, Boston (2000); CCA, Kitakyushu (1999); Stedelijk Van Abbemuseum, Eindhoven (1997); Museum van Hedendaagse Kunst Antwerpen (1997).
