무너지며 쌓여가고 사라지며 되돌아오는 한성우의 회화작업 지나간 시간과 관념을 물감덩이로 쌓아가며 한성우의 이미지는 언제나 새롭게 드러나고 발견된다 물론 그의 작업은 물성의 힘을 재료로 삼는다 하지만 작가는 구체적인 재현을 거부하며 캔버스를 덮은 물감덩이들의 구성을 통해서 자신의 관념을 발전시켜 나간다 작가가 그리는 것은 그릴 수 없는 것들이다 자신을 드러내지 못하고 사라진 시간과 존재들에 작가의 눈길과 손길은 집중된다 때문에 한성우 작가의 예술언어는 시인의 마음과 닮아간다 한성우 작가가 이른바 추상화 작업을 통해 주장하는 문장은 역설적이게도 명확하다 그것은 바로 그림은 그릴 수 없는 것을 그려야만 한다는 점이다 지난 해 작가가 작업노트에 적어둔 문장을 경유하여 다시 그의 그림을 바라보아야만 한다 보았던 것이라기 보다는 보고 싶어하는 것에 가깝다 ." 흘러가는 현재 속에서 사라진 시간들이 물감을 쌓아가는 예술 수행 과정 속에서 그가 보고 싶었던 형상으로 다시금 되돌아오게 되었다 즉 잊혀진 존재들이 색이라는 관념으로 전환되며 추상작업 속에서 드러나게 된다 때문에 실존을 고민하던 관념의 무게 속에서 재현을 가능케 하는 연약한 규칙들은 비 재현적인 물감덩이로 극복된다 나아가 전시공간에서 가시적인 형태가 아닌 발화가능한 미학적 규칙들을 내포한 가지성 可知性 의 형태로 전시될 수 있다 Han Sungwoo s Painting Work: Collapsing, Accumulating, and Reappearing As Han Sungwoo layers paint clumps to accumulate time and ideas, his images continually reveal themselves in new ways. His work undoubtedly relies on the power of materiality, yet Han deliberately avoids concrete representation. Instead, he develops his concepts through the arrangement of paint clumps that cover his canvases. What he paints are things that cannot be painted his attention is focused on the vanished times and beings that can no longer reveal themselves. Thus, Han's artistic language resembles that of a poet's heart. The statement that Han makes through his so-called abstract works is, paradoxically, crystal clear: a painting must depict the unpaintable. To truly understand his work, we must revisit the sentence he wrote in his notebook last year. It s closer to what he wanted to see rather than what he actually saw. In the ongoing flow of the present, the time that had disappeared reemerges as the forms he longed to see during the artistic process of layering paint. In other words, the forgotten existences are transformed into the concept of color and revealed through his abstract work. As a result, the delicate rules that allow for representation under the weight of existential contemplation are overcome by the non-representational paint clumps. Furthermore, within the exhibition space, these works can be displayed not as visible forms but as knowable shapes that embody latent aesthetic rules.
