Hyunsung Park

Hyunsung Park engages with physical conditions such as gravity, pressure, and equilibrium to visualize inner sensibility and relational motion. Utilizing pliable materials like fabric, she repeatedly suspends, twists, and compresses, articulating states of tension through expansion, rupture, deconstruction, and reconfiguration in both pictorial and spatial realms. In the process, forms deform and boundaries between inside and outside blur, as the physical forces she exerts mirror her interior compulsions and relational dynamics. Her methods of knotting, weaving, sewing, and entangling operate as metaphors for the interplay of volition and compulsion in human relationships, and under the vocabulary of “skin” or “surface,” she probes how accrued experience expands outward. Park’s work transcends object arrangement or textile installation, instead establishing a visual field of complex tension and flow that connects interiority to exteriority, memory to presence, identity to alterity.
