Gyume translates the visual language derived from digital and photographic culture—afterimages of motion, fragmented light, and residual overlays of scenes—into the practice of painting. Her work is informed not only by animated effects familiar to games and web imagery, but also by the instantaneous capture and archival logic of photography and film. These diverse references materialize on the canvas as fragmentary forms and luminous flows that refuse to stabilize, oscillating instead within rhythms of emergence and dissolution, acceleration and deceleration. At the same time, Gyume’s paintings evoke the notion of a “breathing space” that exceeds the purely visual. In the overlapping and dispersal of fragments and traces of light, viewers encounter a field where the visible and the invisible, the real and the virtual, inhale and exhale together. By negotiating the velocity of photographic and digital images through the materiality of painting, her practice constructs a sensorial site for rethinking what it means to dwell in shared experience with the world.
