Based in Seoul, South Korea
Jiu Song seeks to visualize imperceptible sensory experiences, approaching images and forms with the attitude of “drawing a sculpture and sculpting a drawing” rather than fixing them within a single medium. She employs diverse materials such as plant-based PLA filament, carved wooden panels, wax, and wire, leaving traces of forms that appear faint or hesitant through lines and colors that linger like afterimages. Through repetition and layering, her work dismantles the fixed meanings of images and invites viewers to experience the intervals between sensation and memory. Her practice explores the resonance between language and image, between titles and works, delicately shaping the subtle interstices of existence. This approach destabilizes the conventional boundaries between painting and sculpture, turning the act of making into a site of perceptual reflection. In doing so, her work departs from representational frameworks and unfolds as an experimental inquiry into the processes through which forms emerge and dissolve.
