Heman Chong

Based in Sg

Heman Chong (b. 1977) is an artist working at the intersection of image, performance, situation, and writing, exploring contemporary society and political structures. Drawing on sharp insight and acerbic wit, his practice engages with contemporary geopolitics and the infrastructural ironies of our data-driven, networked society. His work, often encouraging audience participation, can be read as acts of imagining, analyzing, and at times, intervening in infrastructure as an everyday medium of politics. Heman Chong currently lives and works in Singapore. His work has been the subject of institutional solo exhibitions at Singapore Art Museum, Singapore (2025); UCCA Dune, Beidaihe (2024); STPI, Singapore (2024); Het Nieuwe Instituut, Rotterdam (2019); Weserburg Museum, Bremen (2019); Jameel Arts Centre, Dubai (2019); Swiss Institute, New York (2018); Art Sonje Center, Seoul (2015); Rockbund Art Museum, Shanghai (2016); South London Gallery, London (2015); NUS Museum, Singapore (2011); Art in General, New York (2007), among numerous others.
