Based in Seoul, South Korea
ByungHo Lee is a sculptor who constantly questions classical concepts and modes of representation in sculpture, maintaining a contemporary sensibility while presenting experimental sculptural methodologies to achieve ‘sculptures with temporality that continuously change over time’ using the style of human body sculptures. His approach to presenting ‘temporality in sculpture’ and ‘sculptures in a continuously fluid and transforming state’ is embodied in three major series: the <Breathing Sculptures> series (2006~), which utilizes silicone and air compressors, the <Anthropometry> series that began in 2016, followed by the <Eccentric Abattis> series. In his recent solo exhibition «Indistinct Vision», ByungHo Lee showcased an attempt to expand his project developed for years, which stemmed from the concept of a 'living sculpture in time,' in a new direction. He presented the next stage of visual experience through painterly experiments on data-based digital sculptures. ByungHo Lee (b. 1976) received both his B.F.A and M.F.A in sculpture from Hongik University, Seoul. He has held solo exhibitions including Indistinct Vision (2025, SPACE SO, Seoul), PIECE (2023, Perigee Gallery, Seoul), Three Shades (2020, SPACE SO, Seoul) and Le Vide (2016, KICHE, Seoul).
