Sangyoon Yoon

Sangyoon Yoon develops paintings where theatrical staging and layered imagery merge into metaphorical scenes. His works often adopt a tripartite structure of animals, figures, and architecture, evoking the interplay of conscious control, unconscious desire, and symbolic agency. He also contrasts refined right-hand oil paintings with spontaneous left-hand drawings, using the latter as an alternate mode that unsettles the order of the canvas. In this way, his compositions resemble uncanny tableaux where isolated figures negotiate hierarchy, alienation, memory, and collective identity.
