Choi Wool Ga was born in 1956 in Ulsan, South Korea, and grew up in Busan. Struggling to adapt to school life, his academic performance remained average at best. However, he immersed himself in literature and music, often staying up all night—earning a reputation as the family’s “problem child.” In the 1980s, he moved to Paris, where he discovered his passion for art and began his career as a painter. After spending 15 years in Paris developing his craft, he relocated to New York in the early 2000s, where his renowned <Black and White Series> brought him significant attention in the contemporary art scene. Choi’s paintings are characterized by the spontaneous appearance of symbols and letters, along with a focus on monochromatic tones and line drawings. His work reflects a literary sensitivity rooted in his childhood experiences and explores the origins of the soul, shaped by both conscious and unconscious realms. By expressing the ancient mysteries of the universe and the innocence of pure, free spirits on canvas, Choi has garnered international acclaim and recognition from art enthusiasts in cities like New York and Paris.
