Byungwook Oh

Based in South Korea

Author Oh Byungwook does not paint the sea that exists, but paints his own sea that is nestled in one side of his mind. His work seems to have satisfied the longing for comfort and tranquility that humans have deep inside. His work method of creating a thick texture on the canvas and spraying paint dozens of times on the screen creates a calm and deep sea with somewhat violent movements and dynamic gestures that oppose the calm sea. The artist says that while painting the sea, he came to look at the world with a positive perspective, and he wants to convey it to the viewers as well. OH’s sea that hugged us waving in silence presents various colors now. The sea, dressed in the bold color of the sky, does not speak anything, but its appearance implies audacity. The sea expressed in this way seems to be trying to change, and it is still pure and warm as well. No matter what hardship comes, you will be able to overcome it in a breeze if you keep your eyes on the sea. From now on, we will be able to look at the sea within us again with a detached attitude and a hopeful gaze.
