Seongjoon Hong

Based in Seoul, South Korea; Berlin, Germany

Seongjoon Hong frames his painting around the motif of layers, conceiving the canvas as a translucent veil that mediates between visibility and concealment. He explores how multiple strata—air, paper, light, shadow—intersect to produce images that hover between the real and the illusory. His practice emphasizes the tension between clarity and ambiguity, allowing trace and absence to coexist. In doing so, Hong positions painting as a reflective space where passing sensations and archival fragments converge into new visual poetics.
