Moon Shin

Two halves lock exactly across a single axis. Moon Shin's sculpture never lets the sides drift, which is why the forms read as bone, as seed, as some creature without a name yet. He cut and ground bronze and stainless steel until the surface worked like a mirror. The symmetry is structure, not decoration: he worked by removing material until the form found its own balance. He spent years in France and made his name at European open-air sculpture exhibitions, then returned to his home city of Masan and built a museum there himself, starting with cutting the hillside for the site. He died in 1995.
