About the exhibition

The world operates more haphazardly than we realize. Science and information continuously shape new paradigms of thought, suggesting living conditions that are faster and more comfortable than ever before. However, simultaneously, the world is rife with incomprehensible, illogical, and absurd events and moments. This holds true at an individual level as well. Despite the inherent value of all human beings, our bodies and minds often fail to function as expected, leading to various forms of anguish and sadness. Hyungji Park has skillfully confronted and interpreted the absurd boundaries of reality that emerge in our rapidly evolving society, translating them into paintings. The artist navigates the ambiguity of the absurd and the mundane, of discomfort, yet compellingly directs our attention to them rather than to things that appear solid or perfect. In this exhibition, the artist presents a series of images centered around three futile concepts she has recently contemplated. Through the artist’s clues, the exhibition aims to delve beneath the surface of her paintings and explore further. Unfortunately, the first aspect to address is the body, which succumbs to the forces of gravity and deteriorates over time. The human body, woven into more intricate and secretive knots than any other living thing, gradually loses its functionality due to wear and tear. The inevitable situation where the body interferes with the mind through the pain it sends is experienced by all human being
