Hyungji Park’s paintings go backwards. Rather than moving from the beginning to the completion, the images she creates are suddenly pop up in the process of endless practice. The traces of the brushes are the overlapped layers of time which the artist persistently fails and ruins in front of the empty canvas. Unintentionally mixed colours and dripping paint marks become clues for another story for the artist, which continues as if catching a tail. In other words, each screen is an afterimage of her actions and a piece of narrative connected to other screens. The atypical shape and the trajectory of overlapping paint continue to produce sensible experience and are acting as a medium for transferring the artist’s energy to the audience.
