Yun Hyong-Keun

Based in Korean

Mix umber with ultramarine and you get a colour that is neither black nor blue. Yun Hyong-Keun poured it onto linen and stood up two or three columns. The work ends there. He never touched the edges where the paint bled into the cloth. Less painting than letting the material settle on its own, which is why each surface soaks slightly differently. He was imprisoned after political trouble in the 1970s, and ornament and facility are said to have left the work after that. Whanki Kim was his father-in-law. He died in 2007.
