Lee Ufan

A stone and a steel plate are set on the floor. Almost nothing has been made; only the placement is decided. Lee Ufan calls this Relatum. In the late 1960s he laid the theoretical ground for Mono-ha in Japan: the artist steps back from adding to the world and instead reveals the relations between things already in it. The painting works the same way — From Point and From Line repeat a stroke and let it run until the pigment gives out. Space Lee Ufan at Busan Museum of Art and the Lee Ufan Museum on Naoshima show the work permanently. Born in Korea, he has worked between Japan and Europe.
